It’s ‘qually’ time in Paris
Tuesday, May 26th, 2009The Qualification draw is complete!
224 of the world’s top players just outside the top 100 have battled for a place in the main draw of the event. But this is not a side-show at Roland Garros! Competition is fierce and, unlike most other venues, the crowds here are large and vocal for this event. French fans are knowledgeable and they do not hesitate to cheer or jeer as their mood and the performance of the players sways them. Here are some pictures of Luxilon-sponsored players in action during the event:

The joy of success for the 28 qualifiers is more than matched by the disappointment of the 196 losers who will be heading home. It’s a tough four days and three rounds for all concerned. Those who make it through to the first round of the main draw will be facing significant odds - more experienced, higher ranked and fresh competitors. But for now, they can relax and recuperate and hone their skills and mental abilities for the stiff challenge ahead.

While all the desperate qualifier’s were battling on outside courts, Roger Federer enjoyed a peaceful practice session on the main court of the event - Philippe Chatrier - only open to the media to protect the great man’s privacy. Roger appeared very relaxed and ‘chatty’ as he hit with Spain’s Juan-Carlos Ferrero, no doubt feeling good after a win over his arch-rival, Rafa Nadal, at the Mutua Madrilena tournament in Madrid last week.
