Luxilon again dominates the 2007 US Open
Friday, September 14th, 2007
Continuing a trend seen at all major tournaments in 2007, Luxilon was again the most used string at the 2007 US Open and was used in 53% of all racquets strung at the event.
Roger Federer was the US Open champion for the 4th consecutive time with a hard-fought 7-6(4) 7-6(2) 6-4 victory over Serbian Novak Djokovic - to complement his 4 straight victories at Wimbledon. This was Roger’s 12th Grand Slam event title.
He uses a hybrid of Luxilon Alu Power Rough and Wilson Natural Gut (sold as Wilson Champions Choice in pro shops and sports stores). Unusually, he uses the gut as the main string and the Alu Power as the cross string. Most pro players do the opposite - but Roger is unique, not only in terms of his unmatched ability on-court, but also as an exceptionally courteous, friendly and generous person off-court. The record that he is putting together in Grand Slam events has already put him ahead of many of the great names of tennis - like Borg, Laver and Emerson. With his current form, he could easily be looking to surpass Pete Sampras’ record of 14 wins by the time he is ready to defend his title at the 2008 US Open.

“I think about it a lot now,” said Federer. “In the beginning, I felt pushed a little bit in the corner, put under pressure about the situation because you don’t win Slams like that, it’s just too tough. I feel these two-and-a-half weeks, it’s so draining. I’m exhausted in the end. It’s a great relief, just to finally maybe have a good night’s sleep without thinking about the upcoming five-setter I have to play. So I know how tough it is. So to come so close already at my age is fantastic, and I really hope to break it.”

American number 1, Andy Roddick, was again frustrated as he came up against his nemesis, the man in black (or white or blue..) in the quarterfinals. In spite of hitting 42 winners, making only 24 errors and averaging over 130 mph on his first serve, he lost in straight sets…
Other men players using Luxilon also made their mark on the tournament with 4 of the 8 men’s quarterfinalists using Luxilon including Feliciano Lopez and David Ferrer from Spain. Both players also used Luxilon Original. Ferrer reached his first Grand Slam event semi-final with wins over 2nd seed Rafael Nadal and David Nalbandian.

In doubles, Simon Aspelin of Sweden and Julian Knowle of Austria won the doubles title both using Luxilon Alu Power. In the quarterfinals, they beat the world’s top-ranking doubles players, Mike and Bob Bryan.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” said Aspelin. “I think it’s going to take a few hours for it to sink in.”
“It’s a dream come true,” said Knowle, who joked that he was happy it was Aspelin who had to serve for the match — and serve directly into the sun. “The pressure was getting pretty big the last couple of days because we knew we were playing really well, and we had a big chance to win this whole thing.’’

Aspelin and Knowle earned $200,000 each for winning the title - more than doubling their earnings for the year.
Juniors also excelled at the US Open with Luxilon-sponsored Kristina Kucova of Slovakia winning the girls’ championship.

Thomas Fabbiano of Italy (Alu Power) and Ksenia Milevskaya (Alu Power) of Belarus were semifinalists in the boys’ and girls’ championships.
