Roger wins the first Grand Slam event of 2007
Saturday, February 3rd, 2007
Roger Federer confirmed his complete dominance of men’s professional tennis by winning the 2007 Australian Open - beating Fernando Gozalez 7-6(2) 6-4 6-4.
This was Federer’s 10th Grand Slam victory - and one that he particularly relished as it was accomplished without him losing a single set - the first time any player has achieved this since Bjorn Borg won the 1980 French Open over 25 years ago.
Roger uses a hybrid of Luxilon’s Alu Power Rough and Wilson Natural Gut. Unusually, he strings the gut in the main strings (running parallel to the grip) and uses the Luxilon for the cross strings.
Most professional players do the opposite. But there is little about Roger Federer that is ordinary - as his opponents at the Austrlian Open will testify..!
Andy Roddick, who Federer played in the semi-final, suggested before the match that the rest of the field were closing the gap with Federer. His defeat 6-4 6-0 6-2 would suggest they still have a long way to go…
